Power to the People?

The second stage of our Power to the People? project started properly this week with Alan Jeffrey leading a workshop for the group exploring the basics of Forum Theatre. We have a great group of participants with varying levels of theatre experience who are all interested in exploring the tricky concept of Empowerment.

Members of the group create an image of Empowerment

Over to Alan for his thoughts on the session:

“Well, stage 2 of Power to the People? is well under way! We had a great session this week (even with Gavin being awol!) where the group were introduced to the basics of Forum theatre and got to try out making some images and trying some interventions. It was a lot of information for two hours but everyone threw themselves into it, I can’t wait to see the group share their final performances down the road! Everyone did so great that I had to share these images they created with the world,  entitled: ’empowerment’…enjoy!”

A second image of Empowerment

The group meets every Wednesday evening at Whitespace on Gayfield Square from 6-8pm and is free! We are still happy to take on some new members so contact us if you would like to join. The idea is to create some small Forum Theatre scenes for a Day of Dialogue in May where we will use them as a starting point to discuss the issue of empowerment with Leith residents, vistors and elected officials. But we have a lot of work to do before then…

I really enjoyed the session last night and thought it was great that so many people came along in the end! It already feels like a strong and committed group.

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.
