Hotel Europa!

Today, Gavin talks about his time working as part of the TOgether International Theatre Company and performing in Hotel Europa!

I have recently returned from an exciting, interesting and exhausting week in Lisbon. Although this is one of my favourite European cities, I was not there to sightsee. Instead I was meeting up with Theatre of the Oppressed practitioners from Portugal, Spain, Croatia, France, Italy, Germany and Brazil to rehearse and perform our joint production, Hotel Europa.

Hotel Europa

The play began life 4 years ago in Lisbon where we all met for the first time to begin training together and develop and piece of Forum Theatre. Along the way we have performed in Pula-Croatia, Berlin-Germany, Bologna-Italy, Athens-Greece and Edinburgh! It has changed and developed along the way, responding to audience feedback and interventions.

The play explores the European Crisis, the unregulated banking system and how it is possible to change this when we are locked inside this system. It asks the audience what a different Europe could look like?

Debates with audiences have been varied and exciting. Although we are from different countries, audiences have always had the same response to the play – this is the problem and it needs to change!

We are excited to announce that Hotel Europa will be performed in the Just Festival in Edinburgh this August from 23rd t0 27th so make sure you catch it then and join in the debate!
