LegiLab in Slovenia!

Following a successful application, 4 members of Active Inquiry had the pleasure of joining other Theatre of the Oppressed Companies from Europe for a week of workshops and experimentation in Legislative Theatre (LT)
The damp and grey weather that we gifted Slovenia from Scotland did not get us down as we played games and participated in exercises to learn more about LT.
The focus of the week was to learn about LT and to explore its uses in a European context. The great thing about the work was that there was no trainer. Instead we all took turns in facilitating the investigation over the 6 days.
Highlights of the week included:
- Karen having her first experience of jokering
- learning new games and exercises (I go by bus…)
- meeting people from Slovenia, Poland, Germany, Colombia and Italy
- visiting two Slovenian theatres – one experimental and one more traditional
- discovering we can live on vegan food for a week!
The first day was spent creating two Forum Theatre scenes, day 2 was spent exploring dramaturgy, day 3 was devoted to jokering, day 4 – the Chamber in the Square and then we experimented with presenting and evaluating our own piece of LT. It was a hard-working and rewarding week in which we learned LT is a very tricky thing to get right but we learned many new ideas for developing a new LT project in Edinburgh.
We hope that this project will continue with new applications being put in soon to continue this important investigation.
