Not For Profit – Public Workshop and Performance Dates
4th November, 2011 - Posted by Gavin - 1 Comment
Our new Forum Theatre project, Not For Profit, officially began on Saturday 29th October with a public research workshop. This project will create a space to explore the causes of and alternatives to the current Public Sector Cuts.
As usual we kicked off the project with a public research workshop in order to collect stories, thoughts and questions to help us to devise a piece of Forum Theatre. Thank you to everyone who managed to drag themselves along for a 10am start! After a couple of wake up coffees we warmed up with an energetic game of Zip Zap Boing before launching into exercises exploring the cuts.
We did some exercises like the one above to begin to think about the cuts and to explore the arguments that are used to justify them. Through these exercises we began to map out different perspectives on the cuts which is very useful for devising a piece of Forum Theatre.
After a well earned break we begin some work exploring personal fears and concerns about how the cuts were going to affect us. We used these concerns to develop characters in small groups which were presented at the end of the session.
At the end of the session the walls were covered with thoughts, questions, stories and characters. Thank you to everyone who contributed.
We have now begun the devising process and, although it has been challenging at times, things have been made much easier by all the information offered at the research workshop.
The final show will be performed in Leith on the following dates. We hope you manage to make it along

The session on Saturday 29th October was both informative enjoyable and productive, in my view. Im sure that the final product will live up to these ideals and I cant wait to see the rehersals. I will not be there for the start at 11am but hope to be there as soon as I am able. awrabest to all involved!
Matt.
